Join us in congratulating Lead Web Developer, James Sumner on 3 years with mJobTime. James has had a significant impact during his time with our web development team. When James joined mJobTime in June of 2012, our flagship web application was in its infancy. It included basic clock in/clock out functionality plus a few bells and whistles, but was far from the polished application it is today. The current evolution of our feature-rich “web app” is, in no small part, due to James’ abilities in software design, development, and team management.
Although he started as a junior programmer on that project back in 2012, James quickly moved up the ranksto becomeLead Web Developer. His expertise in client-side technologies, including HTML, CSS, JSON, and Javascript as well as his back-end development skills in C#, SQL, and ASP.NET, has allowed him to design and create what we believe is the best time and job tracking solution in our industry.
Q: What has been your favorite project at mJobTIme so far?
James: My favorite project has been re-writing the web application with offline capability. Too often our field users are in remote locations, unable to access an internet connection, yet they still needed to capture information. Now with the offline feature, operations are captured and stored locally on your device until they’re able to reconnect to the network. Uploading those records is now seamless to the user with offline mode.
In addition to his technical capabilities, James’ professionalism, passion, and personable nature have made him an invaluable member of the mJobTime management team. Around the middle of 2013, our development group had grown to meet the needs of our growing customer base and was seeking someone capable of leading this expanded team. Although he had no past software management experience, James was the obvious choice. When asked to take on this role, he graciously accepted.
Q: What have you learned at mJobTime that you didn’t expect?
James: I’ve worked as a web developer for other companies in the past, but I’ve never been a part of a development team. It’s been interesting learning to collaborate and develop in a way that complements my team’s styles and abilities.
Q: What are you looking forward to developing in the future?
James:All of my development in the past has been targeted to field users. I’m excited about expanding the scope of the web app to allow for more high level administrative processes.
Today, James spearheads a team of designers and programmers who are not only enhancing our current web offering, but also beginning work on the next generation of mJobTime!
