Best Practices
mJob is most effective when integrated into clear, consistent operational strategies. Here are 7 core practices to maximize efficiency and accountability on your job site:
🧱 1. Standardize Your Digital Processes
- Create consistent workflows for clock-ins, material tracking, equipment use, safety checks, and daily reports.
- Use templates within your app to keep documentation uniform across crews and job sites.
- Define roles and permissions so supervisors, foremen, and crew members only see what’s relevant to their job.
📲 2. Emphasize Mobile Simplicity
- Make sure the app interface is simple enough for all crew members to use with minimal training.
- Offer short onboarding sessions or “cheat sheets” showing how to perform key actions on their phones.
- Encourage use of voice-to-text or photo uploads instead of typing detailed notes — faster and more accurate in the field.
🕒 3. Enforce Real-Time Data Capture
- Require real-time or same-day entry for timecards, production data, and materials.
- Use GPS or geofencing to verify worker location and automate clock-ins.
- Review data daily to catch issues early (e.g., overtime trends, delays, or material shortages).
📈 4. Integrate and Automate Where Possible
- Sync field data automatically with payroll, accounting, and project management systems to eliminate manual re-entry.
- Use dashboards or reports to visualize productivity, costs, and safety metrics.
- Automate alerts and reminders (e.g., missing time entries, expiring certifications).
🦺 5. Promote Safety and Accountability
- Digitize safety checklists, toolbox talks, and incident reports — require signatures and timestamps.
- Track training and certifications inside the app.
- Use photos and digital documentation to validate compliance and protect against disputes.
💬 6. Foster Communication and Transparency
- Use in-app messaging or notifications to communicate daily priorities and updates.
- Encourage foremen to comment or tag issues directly in the app rather than relying on texts or calls.
- Share project dashboards or summaries with the team to keep everyone aligned on progress.
📚 7. Measure, Review, and Improve
- Regularly review app usage metrics — are crews submitting reports on time? Are supervisors approving data daily?
- Collect feedback from field users on what’s working and what’s slowing them down.
- Continuously update processes and training as new app features are released or company priorities change.
🧩 Bonus Tip: Keep It Human
Even the best smart app won’t replace good leadership. Regular site visits, open communication, and recognition for accurate reporting or productivity improvements go a long way toward ensuring tech adoption actually sticks.
Latest Blog
The "wrench time" reality check shows that non-productive time is a silent killer, costing companies tens of thousands of dollars annually in lost profit (not just wages, but fully-burdened labor rates). This non-productivity—caused by waiting, excessive travel, and administrative waste—snowballs into project delays and faulty future estimates. To fix this invisible drain, you must use real-time, accurate field data provided by mJob to measure and correct bottlenecks.

🧩 Clock In/Out Questions
Want to capture more info from your crews when they clock in or out? You can now set up **custom questions** to appear during clock in or clock out — right from the mJob **Web App** or **iOS App**.
Here’s how to get the most out of this feature 👇
🔤 Add Multiple Languages
If your teams speak multiple languages, you can make questions available in each one.
- Go to **Utilities → Setup Clock In/Out Languages** on the desktop app to add any additional languages.
- Then, right-click a language to set it as your default.
🧱 Create Your Questions
Head to **Maintenance → Daily Log Events** and add a new event for each question you want to display.
- ✔ Check the **Clock In/Out option**
- 🗣 Add **translations** for each alternate language
- 📋 Example: “Breakfast” in English → “Almuerzo” in Spanish
🧩 Group Questions into Forms
Once your questions are ready, group them together under **Maintenance → Daily Log Forms**.
- Give the form a name (like “Clock Out Questions”)
- Check either **Clock In** or **Clock Out**
- Add and reorder your questions
- Assign forms to specific foremen
🌐 Foreman Setup on the Web App
Foremen can choose which language and phrasing to display:
- Go to **Settings → Preferences → Clock In/Clock Out tab** and select from the dropdowns.
- ✅ Tap **✔** for “Yes” or **X** for “No.”
- Employees must answer all required questions before clocking out.
📱 iOS App Setup
Currently, only Clock Out questions are available on iOS.
Foremen can enable and customize them under:
- **Settings → Preferences → Clockout Settings**
- Toggle **Enable Questions** on (green)
- Pick a secondary language (optional)
- Choose which phrases to display
🏁 Quick Reminders
- Clock In questions appear at the bottom of the Clock In screen.
- Clock In/Out questions don’t display on Change Task.
- Employees can’t clock out until all questions are answered.
