The other day, a fairly large prospective customer asked one of our sales staff to send them an email with a brief statement as to why the prospect should choose mJobTime. In most cases, it is very hard to state the differences between you and the competition in a brief statement. There can be many reasons why – some obvious, some not so apparent. I would like to use this post to try to detail the main differences we see between mJobTime and our competitors.
First, the less obvious. Call it our company culture if you will, but I think it is our philosophy for managing a software company.
mJobTime will be exhibiting at the World of Concrete 2015 in Las Vegas next month and we thought we would use this opportunity to talk about a promising technology for reducing carbon emissions that just so happens to have its beginnings in the cement industry.
The production of cement requires huge amounts of energy. Making cement requires heating limestone with small quantities of other materials to approximately 2,600 degrees Fahrenheit. This produces a tremendous amount of CO2. Making one ton of cement results in the emission of roughly one ton of CO2—and in some cases much more. Since current worldwide production of cement is approximately 4 billion tons per year, there are at least 4 billion tons of annual CO2 emissions. This represents about 5% of all man-made CO2 emissions globally of which approximately 50% is from the chemical process and 40% from burning fuel.
Mobile technology has changed our world and revolutionized the way we do business. It provides us with instant communication with friends, family, and others, it allows us to learn faster, to better track our health, to be more productive at work, and so much more. In fact, most of us are still trying to figure out just how to best use mobile technology.
This is especially true in the construction world where companies are exploring new ways to increase efficiency, productivity and profits. One of those avenues is the use of mobile time tracking applications.
Mobile time tracking software has enabled construction and other field service businesses to easily and accurately collect labor time and other records in the field and instantly sync those records to the office. With one caveat - mobile applications require an internet connection.

We recently talked to a prospective customer who was looking to purchase a mobile time tracking software application. They were looking for many of the same features and functionality that we offer, but there was one big thing that separated them from most of the prospects we talk to – they already had a mobile time clock application.
On numerous occasions, the first question posed to us by prospective customers is “how much does your system cost”. On one hand, we totally understand the question. Cost is a very important factor!
But should it be the first question asked?
The answer in the great majority of cases is an absolute NO!
As a rule, a mobile time clock vendor should want to get more information about their prospect to make sure they know what the relevant issues are and can provide an appropriate solution. But to keep things simple, let’s assume that the vendor’s software is a good fit for the prospective customer. As a result, they submit a proposal to the prospect.
Two posts ago, we began the discussion on how and why flexibility is an important component of a well-designed mobile time tracking system. We continued the discussion in our last post, by going into further detail about adaptable integration with accounting and other applications, and a flexible user interface. In this post will demonstrate the flexibility needed to handle contractors both large and small.
As we mentioned previously, no two businesses have the same processes. Everybody does things a little differently. People want to track different information. What is important to a big heavy highway contractor is probably a lot different than, for example, a smaller plumbing contractor. Let’s compare the likely needs of these two types of contractors.
